Okiri was founded as a flagship program of Soulevement, with a deep sense of purpose and commitment to making a difference in the lives of children and youth in conflict with the law. 

Okiri a Luo word meaning mongoose –an intelligent, adaptable, good social orientation, and fierce, was chosen reflecting the energy, optimism and warmth that these young individuals will bring to the program. The traits of a mongoose give an idea of the everyday lives of children and youths who come into conflict with the law.
